I first heard about this movie from Grim D. Reaper, and saw the movie poster on his website. I had to comment on the lame tagline printed on the poster. The image looked fantastic, but the tagline made it sound like "Mean Girls meets Amityville Horror". I admit I was sort of "eh, okay" about this film and pretty much decided to leave it unseen until its DVD release, due to the fact that I have little time for movie theater outings, and they are too pricey these days not to be selective, anyway.
(Can you hear the "but" coming? Haha!)
But ... I'm in the middle of finishing up a new show for my Fiends Radio program, and the interview subject happens to be Christopher Young, the composer on this film. I had no idea of the extensive work he'd done beyond Hellraiser (the reason I love his work) and until I read his bio on his website, I didn't know he was doing the score for this movie.
So now I shall have to catch this one in the theater so I can experience a Chris Young scored horror film in a surround sound theatrical release (a treat I was denied with Hellraiser, having not heard of it until loooong after it was out of theaters).
Oh, but I also finally saw a trailer for it, too, and it looks GOOD. If only they'd come up with a cooler tagline on the poster. It turned me off so thoroughly, that if I hadn't found out Chris Young was doing the film score, I probably wouldn't have bothered to see it at all, having been given the impression it was going to be hokey. I know, I know ... I should have more faith in Sam Raimi. But free time is at a premium, and money is tight for all of us - at $9 a pop for a ticket, and nearly $20 by the time you get drinks and munchies (if not nearly $30 with a friend along) you have to be a bit pop-fly with your decisions of what you'll pay to see and what you'll skip for free.
Anyone else either going to see it or avoid it? I can vouch for the composer - he's a genius!
